Hello. My name is Juan Manuel García. I was born in the Noria district of the City of Oaxaca. At the age of ten, I began to learn to work at silverware thanks to my father whose livelihood depended on this trade. Now at the age of 52 I am still working at this noble trade which gives me great satisfaction, though not always great economic gain; it is really comforting for the human soul.

Whenever I begin make a piece of craft with my hands I have a custom of saying “in the name of God may this turn out well and may this day be truly fruitful”.

My father used to say: that the apprentice must become better than the teacher. All this has motivated me to create some unique products which have been publicly acclaimed.

Each piece of art that I create bears a part of my life and my years of work and pushes me to do things better and better. These pieces are handmade are made from ocote wood.

GRANATE is an organization that urges our people, our artists and our crafts persons not to turn their backs on their roots, their trades, and their art.

I am delighted to belong to GRANATE because it has helped me enormously by making my works of art known and appreciated for what it is.
