Weaving is our way of life and it is how we share our lives as members of a family from the youngest to the oldest.

We are a fourth generation Zapotec family which produces 100% handmade woolen rugs using natural dyes made from cochineal grain, firewood moss, aniline, oak tree bark, pomegranate peel, nutshells, zenpazuchiltl flowers, black zapote and many plants and fruits.Weaving is our way of life and it is how we share our lives as members of a family from the youngest to the oldest.
It is a beautiful job which our children are taught to replicate and they likewise with teach future generations.
From the early age of 8, our children are taught to work with wool at first making hanks of wool. With the passage of time children are given more complicated tasks such as spinning, washing the wool, carding, making it into hanks, painting the wool, and washing it in hamole which is the root of a tree that produces lots of foam. (I remember how my grandparents would use hamole as soap and shampoo to prevent hair-loss or give their hair a healthy look).
Children are finally taught how to weave the woolen rugs which typify our Zapotecan roots and traditions. We like this work because it is the best way to keep the family united, we are always together and this our way of life.

We are happy to be working with GRANATE as it is a door to a world of beautiful experiences.

Teotitlan town is full of magical customs and traditions; its biggest festival is in July with its delicious food such as tamales made from a yellow sauce and wrapped in banana leaf, its tasty Oaxacan mole sauce, and traditional enchiladas.
