OAXACAN was founded to introduce our artists and crafts persons to national and international lovers of art, to promote their culture and art throughout the world without being forced to turn their backs on their traditional magic because of financial reasons. 

OAXACAN works directly with crafts persons through its office located in the City of Oaxaca in Oaxaca State. Most of these work in their family workshops. What we do in this organization is reduce the cost of promoting their products by eliminating the need to travel from one place to another promoting their art, because income from their sales is not sufficient to cover this extra cost.  

OAXACAN - THE OAXACA MAGIC

This is an alliance of indigenous Oaxacan artists and crafts persons who are struggling to preserve and promote their culture. We have known each other for years and we have just initiated our project called OAXACAN. With a view to being able to create a strong national and international impact we are looking for the best alternatives to promote our organization. We are delighted to be able to work together with NOVICA, an internationally recognized company. Each one of the members of this project is motivated principally by the concept of quality and this is why each piece which is manufactured is made from the best materials as well as with great love, enthusiasm, commitment added to the magic meaning which we can inculcate in each of our products. These can be woolen rugs from Teotitlan del Valle where each combination of symbols represented in the rugs reveals different histories with very special meanings which come from our Zapotec ancestors. Ever since the colonial period, jewelry has been traditionally produced in Oaxaca and is still produced with many traditional tools and techniques. Oaxacan jewelers show what they have inherited long ago from prehistoric culture through magnificent conceptions of Zapotec arts persons. In a small jeweler’s workshop you will find a hammer, an awl, a blowtorch and pairs of dexterous hands producing all this wonderful filigree of large circular earrings, crosses, broaches, and hairpins each one more beautiful than the other in terms of technique, or the impeccable chain making, or the harmonic combination of lines and arabesques which form the piece. San Martin Tilcajetes produces alebrijes which reveal a world of magical beings created from the legends and fantasies of this community. The typical black clay from San Bartolo Coyotepec is an example of the beauty and spirituality from which each one of these pieces are made. This feature is exemplified in peoples belief about the way black clay pots can used to hold onto a lover so that they never wander from ones side!

The symbiotic relationship between the ancient peoples of Oaxaca and their environment gave rise to the development of a group of cultures that can be identified through their craftsmanship. This is reflected in their carefully hand-made unique crafts. OAXACAN company offers you these crafts with a distinct ly unrepeatable touch since each piece is made by hand by authentic crafts persons who are the descendents of the thousand year-old Zapotec and Mixtec cultures. These people have inherited unique knowledge from generation to generation down through the years.

Likewise, OAXACAN company offers its customers an opportunity to get in touch with Oaxacan art through the production of some Oaxacan painters in whose work one can see the ideological and cultural diversity expressed in obras de caballete y grafica. Undoubtedly, the unquestionable quality of our crafts persons and artists highlights the pride of Oaxacan culture.
